Hoover defeats Vestavia Hills in Rivalry Game

May 20, 2009

It would have been a shut out if not for a fumbled punt by Hoover. Hoover defeated Vestavia Hills 17-2 holding the Rebels to their fewest points in the Rivalry since 1991. The Bucs are 9 for 11 against Vestavia in the rivalry series. The big win guaranteed the Bucs a least a share of the regional title. Once again, special plays from its special teams provided the punch for a strong Hoover defense. Senior quarterback Simon Propst came away with MVP honors as he threw for 11 of 22 to compile 152 yards.

"It's always a big win," safety Brian Jackson said. "It feels like a win in a championship game. That's why all of us are wearing hats. You put on the hats after a win that feels like a championship. That's why we've got our hats on tonight."
